Friends and fellow teachers, Chris from Woodspace and Dan Taylor (picturesbytaylor.com), have brought their design skills and education experience together to bring you 'Project Playhouse' - a fully immersive design and build experience for children utilising the principles of 'STEM'.
This hands on experience allows the children (The 'Project Managers') to take part in each phase of production described below. They will use Mathematics, Design and Technology, Art and Woodwork in a real life project that Chris and Dan will link to an age appropriate school curriculum.
Our aim is to get the Project Manager excited about a range of skills that will benefit them in and outside of the classroom. Your children will have great fun, but they will also be left with a high-quality building that will bring them joy for years to come.
Project playhouse can be adapted for treehouses, Wendy houses or larger 'more grown up' insulated games rooms. Get in touch to discuss how we can get involved.
Chris and Dan will sit with the Project Manager to discuss ideas and come up with a wish list.
We encourage the children to be as imaginative as they want at this stage, consider how they will use the space and what they might want to see in it.
With Dan’s help, they will sketch ideas and design a name for the project.
Parents can be as involved as they like at this stage to make sure we don’t get carried away!
The Project Manager will be presented with a final drawing of the design for approval. This will show each of the elevations, allow for adjustments and will be an additional keep-sake to be hung on the wall at the end of the project.
Chris will work with the Project Manager to complete the mathematical elements of the project such as calculating the quantity of each material, managing budgets, setting timelines and ordering products.
Where possible, the process will make links to the age-appropriate curriculum and support what they may be doing in school.
The Project Manager is now welcome to help during a few stages of the build. Working under the watchful eye of Chris and Dan and wearing their hard hat and high-vis, they can help prep the site, lay the foundations, build parts of the structure or help construct the roof.
The Project Manager now needs to think about the finish. Paint colour, chalkboard walls, a dartboard, furniture, lighting.
Where possible, what would have been waste products can be turned in to bits of furniture, art work or games.
The most important part…once the Project Manager is happy with the finish, it is now time to show their friends, have a play and let their imaginations run wild.
At the end of the project the Project Manager will be presented with a photobook documenting the project, highlighting the skills they have learnt, how they were involved and what it takes to see a task through from concept to production. The book will include photos of each stage and hand drawn illustrations by Dan.
Parents will speak to Chris and Dan before the build to make sure we help direct the project in the right way in terms of style and budget….just in case you don’t want to see a 28 foot rocket ship in the middle of your manicured lawn!
We can also come in and build a play house as a surprise for your child without the 'Project Manager' element. Please get in touch for a no-obligation, quote.
