Meet Chris & Dan

Chris and Dan have been friends for over 10 years ago after meeting while teaching at the same school. 

They took the leap at the end of 2023 leave teaching and work full time on their own businesses (Chris - Woodspace and Dan - Theartistdantaylor). At the same time, they launched their 'Project Playhouse' concept which draws on both their creative skills and education backgrounds to offer a fully immersive design and build experience for children. 

They enjoy working with clients to discuss their wish-list to make sure everyone gets the perfect product, however unique, for a competitive price.

Chris Bethel – Founder of Woodspace and Project Playhouse

Chris has 15 years of teaching experience, most recently as a maths teacher and Head of Year at Danes Hill School, Oxshott,working with prep-school-aged children. He has also taught in Senior and Special Educational Needs schools. In 2023, he left teaching to focus on Woodspace, that designs and builds a wide range of wooden structures, from treehouses and garden rooms to mud kitchens, using sustainable materials and upcycling wherever possible to minimise waste.

Dan Taylor, Partner of Project Playhouse, Artist and Illustrator

Dan has 20 years of teaching experience, most recently as Head of Design & Technology at Danes Hill School, Oxshott. In 2023, he left teaching to focus on Project Playhouse alongside his art and illustration business (TheArtistDanTaylor). 

Dan creates bespoke, hand-painted cartoon illustrations—perfect for birthdays, anniversaries, housewarmings, or any special occasion. He also takes commissions for custom paintings, aiming to make affordable art accessible to all.

Chris and Dan are currently working are Surrey, London, Berkshire, and surrounding areas but can travel further as required.
